After Extraction

  1. Lips, teeth and tongue are numb due to anaesthesia after the surgical procedure. So avoid chewing until 1-2 hours after the procedure.
  2. Bite firmly on the gauze piece for about 45 minutes.
  3. Do not rinse forcefully for at least 24 hours after the procedure.
  4. Do not spit repeatedly. Swallow the saliva.
  5. Take medication as directed.
  6. Eat something cold an hour after the procedure.
  7. Drink lots of fluids and eat soft food after the procedure.
  8. Put a teaspoon of sugar in warm water and rinse with it for at least three times a day since the next day of the procedure.
  9. When you brush the next day avoid cleaning the area of extraction site.

After Filling

  1. Sensitivity to hot and cold might be there which will come down gradually.
  2. If you feel you are not able to bite properly you can come again so that your bite can
  3. Avoid sticky (especially gums) and hard foods as they tend to dislodge the filling.

For Crowns and Bridges

  1. There might be soreness or sensitivity of gums which will come down gradually.
  2. It is important to brush normally and floss carefully.
  3. Do not bite on hard objects or chew sticky food.
  4. In some cases, the crown the bridge might come off. These can be re-cemented back into its place.
  5. Maintain proper oral hygiene and visit your dentist every six months for cleaning.

For Implants

  1. Do not spit, swallow your saliva.
  2. Avoid alcohol and smoking.
  3. Keep fingers and tongue away from the surgical site.
  4. You can apply a cold compress for first few hours to reduce the swelling.
  5. Take all medications as prescribed by your doctor.
  6. While brushing the teeth avoid the surgical area.
  7. Avoid using mouthwashes that contain alcohol.
  8. Chew on the opposite side of treated area.

After Periodontal Surgery

  1. Do not eat anything until the numbness has worn off.
  2. Do not rinse vigorously, or drink through a straw.
  3. Eat soft and nutritious food. Avoid hot and spicy food.
  4. Do not use tobacco or drink alcohol.
  5. Slight bleeding is not unusual. If it continues, apply ice pack on the outside of your face and keep your head elevated using pillows while lying down.
  6. You need to visit the dentist in one week for removal of sutures.
