Periodontal treatment includes both surgical and non-surgical treatment. Non-surgical treatment includes scaling and root planning. However, in some cases, surgical treatment might be needed to restore the periodontal health, which is therapy for gums and bone.

Some bacterial activity continuously goes on inside the mouth. If bacterial deposits remain inside the mouth, they cause further destruction which may lead to formation of abscess and then loosening of teeth. If bone loss occurs then also teeth may have to be extracted.

Periodontal surgery increases the chances of keeping natural teeth. It is a procedure for regenerating lost bone and tissue supporting the tooth.

Periodontal surgery is also helpful in cases of gum recession, wherein tooth may develop sensitivity due to exposed roots.

Periodontal Scaling and Root Planing

Periodontal scaling and root planing is the most common treatment for early-stage gum disease. This procedure is performed either when gum tissue retracts from the base of your teeth or tartar (calculus) forms around the roots of the teeth.
